Welcome to Cherwell

Cherwell College Oxford is a pre-university tutorial college, with boarding facilities, in Oxford. The College provides an exciting and challenging opportunity to study in a mature, yet informal academic environment. All students have one-to-one tutorials with expert and experienced teachers; this grants them unparalleled support and access to excellence.

The College offers a range of options for full-time academic study for students aged between 14 and 19 years old.

Cherwell College Oxford is different to conventional boarding schools; at Cherwell, the focus lies on preparing students for university life. We do this by adopting an adult approach to learning, promoting independent living skills and a carefully tailoring one-to-one tuition programme to enable entry to Russell Group Universities (and other, leading international institutions).

The College offers the following academic study programmes:

• GCSE & IGCSE
• Bespoke one-to-one programmes
• University Admission programmes to prepare students for university entry tests, interviews and to guide students through the admission process.

The Cherwell College fee structure varies depending on the number of subjects the student will study and the number of hours required per subject per week.

Short-term programmes

The College also provides a wide range of short-term courses throughout the year. These include:

• Easter Revision Programmes (March/April)
• Pre-sessional GCSE & IGCSE (flexible start dates)
• Pre-sessional A-Level (flexible start dates)

Admissions

 For A-level: students will be expected to attend an interview with the Principal and present a good academic record from their previous studies. In addition, international students will be expected to have a good command of English language which will be evaluated during the interview or by a secured English language test provider.

For GCSE & IGCSE: students will be expected to attend an interview with the Principal.

Study Facilities

The main College building is St Georges Mansion – a magnificent five storey Edwardian building offering breathtaking views of the Dreaming Spires and comprising a suite of tutorial and lecture rooms, a supervised study area, a library, a common room with vending machines and a computer area.

The College has a separate Science Faculty, which is centrally located at Frewin Court (adjacent to the Oxford Union) and provides laboratory facilities for students studying science subjects.

Our Art Studio is located at Cornmarket, which is now an Art Hub incorporating the latest technologies to support Art & Design students through all practical aspects of their course, from textiles and sculpture to photography and graphics.

Accommodation

Boarding students are accommodated at Cherwell House – a purpose-built student residential accommodation located within the short walking distance from our main study centres.

Situated in the heart of Oxford, Cherwell College Oxford is proud of their outstanding boarding facilities with a campus of en-suite single bedrooms, WI-FI,  laundry room, dining & common area and excellent cuisine from our high calibre chefs.

Welfare

Our students have the support of a 24/7, residential welfare team. They are contactable at all times, both by phone or in person. This reflects the supportive and personalised ethos of the college, and our belief that student wellbeing is paramount.

Life at Cherwell

Cherwell College Oxford has an established tradition with the Oxford Union where our students become members of the Union. This provides them with the exclusive opportunity to attend debating workshops and lectures by prominent individuals.

Cherwell College runs activities for our students at the weekends, including cinema trips, museum visits and tours of local cities. We also have regular Film Club and Science Club meetings.

External speakers often come to Cherwell College to speak to our students on a variety of issues, be they political, historical, scientific, legal or sociological.
