Oxford Sixth Form College

On Thursday 25th April a squad of 10 players from Oxford Sixth Form College headed to St George’s Park (the English Football Association’s national football centre built on a 330-acre site at Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire) for the annual CIFE (CIFE is the professional association for independent sixth-form colleges) football tournament. This is only the second time that we had entered the tournament.

We’re proud to report that Alice Taylor received a 2017 CIFE Award this April for her exceptional contribution to life at Oxford Sixth Form College. She received the award from CIFE President Lord Lexden at a ceremony in the House of Lords.

We feel privileged to have had Alice as one of our students. From the very beginning, she showed her enthusiasm and commitment to her studies and the college. Her maturity and her desire to succeed were soon very clear to all her teachers.

Alice impressed all of us by her combination of keen intellect and hard-working attitude. She excelled in her academic choices, English Literature, History and Music, becoming an inspiration to other students.

We sorely miss Alice at Oxford Sixth Form College, but we are certain our loss has become University of Oxford’s gain.

We’re delighted to announce that Mary Gompertz has been awarded a 2016 College Award for her outstanding contribution to life at Oxford Sixth Form College.  Mary (pictured here receiving her award from CIFE President Lord Lexden) joined OSFC in September 2014. From her first weeks at the college, Mary demonstrated an impressive drive towards academic success as well as real perseverance and talent.

It did not take any of Mary’s teachers by surprise that she went on to achieve A*A*A*A*A*A*A* A in her I/GCSEs. Mary has a sharp, mature and insightful intellect beyond her years, which she demonstrated in her overall grades and in some exceptionally high UMS scores. She will always continue to be an inspiration to her teachers.

OSFC student Kenji Baba received a College prize from CIFE’s President Lord Lexden at the 2015 CIFE Awards held at the House of Lords this March.

Kenji (shsown left with Lord Lexden) is the perfect blend of student. He is sensible, mature and intelligent, as well as humorous on occasions, and has left a lasting impression on his teachers at Oxford Sixth Form College.

In mathematics Kenji has notably shone. He is hardworking, logical, accurate and extremely motivated to do well.

Despite English not being Kenji’s first language, his powers of analysis are of an extremely high level and he has no problem in following, or in presenting, a coherent argument.

Outside of academia, Kenji has shown great dedication and compassion by engaging with the wider community, as exhibited by his voluntary work in helping support victims of the recent Fukushima tragedy.

Kenji has proven to be a most reliable and loyal student, who has shown great determination to succeed.

We’re delighted to report that OSFC student Hugh Squire has received a CIFE college prize from CIFE President Lord Lexden in a ceremony at the House of Lords ealier this year.

Hugh joined Oxford Sixth Form College in late November 2012, having previously begun a degree in Mathematics at Portsmouth University. With a background in music and theatre, Hugh decided to change course and pursue a career in the arts, so took on English Literature A-Level for the first time halfway through the academic year.

Hugh’s exceptional hard work, both in and outside of the classroom, his dedication and his passion for the subject enabled him to complete the two-year course in only six months and to gain an A grade. He is now studying English and Drama at Cardiff Metropolitan University.
